Nothing showed up on the MRI so we are back to the drawing board again. To say this is stressful is an understatement.
OG is now so weak that he can’t even get down the stairs. On Sunday he started throwing up and his blood sugar plummeted. As he is diabetic this is not good! I called the out of hours doctor service and they called an ambulance. By the time the ambulance arrived he had stopped and his blood sugar started to go up again so there was no need for him to go to hospital.
The oncologist has at last spoken to the gastroenterologist and he is also competely puzzled but agrees it is best to get him into hospital for more tests. We have spent the afternoon waiting for a telephone call from the hospital to give us further instructions and an admission time. So here we are again. Waiting in the “no joined up writing” zone again.
And you know what? I'm no expert, but I'm still convinced that the problem revolves around his bowels. I understand that following major bowel surgery it is not unusual for adhesions to occur and this could account for his erractic bowel movements, pain, throwing up and, in fact, the whole raft of associated problems.
Every time I speak to a doctor I bleat on about this, but they simply ignore me. Imagine, the great authority on everything, and they have the temerity to ignore me! Can you believe that? Oh yes! I should have been a doctor, in fact I think that I will be one!
And finally … there are worse things than getting a call for a wrong number at 4AM: It could be a right number.

I am sorry to hear that. Must be a tremendous worry and I do hope that you are right and that they will listen to you.
I had a similar thing happen 7 yrs before my mother died. I told the doctor what I thought the problem was..... two WEEKS before she died, I was told...... *Yes, you were right it is what you thought* I was pretty annoyed as it was too late then to do anything.
Go with your gut feeling! (Not meant to be a pun......... honest!)
Nuts in May
I am keeping my fingers crossed for you both! Hopefully the next round of tests will provide some more insight!!
Clearly, you should call in a gastroenterologist.
Oh, he's the guy you're talking about...
Keep pushing and asking why it can't be what you think. Good luck, R&C.
... and scare him by writing down his answer!
Hi R&C - I'm long overdue for a call in but I am sad to see the health problems with OG and difficulties obtaining meaningful responses from doctors.
My wife, Maria, has secondary cancer and I have just quit the ambulance service so I can spend some more time with her - done a post on it.
Now, did you get the recent news??
I'll tell you!! I am Maggie May's brother and her son Sam's uncle and God Father.
There! That made you sit up!!
We announced it gradually over the last two weeks.
Very best wishes
Eddie x
Well Maggie, you and Eddie are dark horses aren't you? I should have realised you were related because you are both such talented and prolific writers. I think that I have comment to you before that I don't know how you get the time to do all the things you do;
Tp scare a consultant is the last tabboo DogLover. We are all too scared to do that!
So sorry about Maria Eddie, this is a hideous illness isn't it? We need some heavy duty praying going on here, which I'm sure is happening anyway. I remember you took time off to look after her but I thought you went back to work again.
So...you are Maggie's bother! I missed your two blogs because I have been dashing about a bit lately I am just about managing to post my own blogs to keep all our family and friends updated with OG's status and have simply not had time to indulge myself with reading my favourites.
Look after yourselves, you are very special people.
