Our first "normal" week turned out to be decidedly "unnormal" starting with swine flu. I had been feeling gruesome since the Tuesday before the funeral and spent the afternoon in bed thinking that I was maybe suffering from shock. Wednesday I still felt the same but I was execting friends to call in at random times and managed to cooked a huge stew and cottage pie. Aedrenalin got me through Thursday, the day of the funeral. On Friday I still felt the same and went to the doctor who diagnosed swine flu. So,Tamiflu and the weekend in bed was recommended. I still felt decidedly delicate on Monday, but rejoined the world.
On Friday my daughter, colleague and I spent the day in the archives of the city library attempting to verify whether or not a 30MPH speed limit was valid. Reason? Whilst visiting Davy in hospital I was flashed three times doing 40MPH, 38MPH and 36MPH in a 30MPH zone. As my licence is so important, especially when Davy relied on me so much and the road doesn't "feel" like a 30MPH road we asked questions regarding the validity of this limit and sight of the road traffic order changing the original 40MPH to 30MPH. As the council was not very co-operative we asked for this information using the Freedom of Information Act. They said they couldn't find the order hence our visit to the archives where we found quite compelling evidence to suggest that the original speed limit of 40MPH is still in affect.
So, my next question is - what is a "normal" week? And will I recognise it when/if it ever happens?!

I hope you are feeling better. Its no wonder that your resistance was low & you got the Pig Flu.
The word *Normal* is different for everybody. For me it means feeling right and not being under the influence of any chemicals.Pleased to say I am normal at the moment & will be all of next week I hope. Too bad about the week after but not thinking about that just yet.
Hoping things are going OK for you. Thoughts & prayers always. Maggie X
Nuts in May
So glad you've got over the Swine Flu. They say it's dangerous for youngsters, so you were lucky.
Have you got any points on your licence at present? Good idea to make them prove their case if they do prosecute. I use my cruise control, but then I don't have to go on the urgent missions you had. Good luck.
Would that be the camera on Perne road by any chance?
It's bloody stupid, no reason to be a 30mph road at all.
I'm so sorry I could not be with you at the funeral, Dubai was a good experience but I know where i'd rather have been.
Take care

Do hope you soon feel well again Ann, probably all that you have been through lately combined with swine flu laid you really low. I expect "normal" will creep up on you.
I'm just stunned that you got the swine flu as well as everything else you've been through. You are one strong lady!
Thinking of you.
Oh dear .. swine flu on top of everything else? Poor you! I'm glad you're struggling on, though.
Well done on challenging the speed limit order. We have stupid limits here, too, but I've never thought of challenging them.
I am so sorry you are having a bad time of it lately. Do hope you get better soon and manage to convince the council to waive that speeding fine.
I did feel better Maggie, but I am lacking energy at the moment. We all need some sunshine now. Chemo is so debilitating isn't it? I'm thinking of you too. Love, Ann xx
Oh my goodness! I hope you feel better soon. You are never far from my thoughts. Take care & know that if there is anything I can do for you I am a blog post away. Sending hugs, as always.
Glad you are over the swine flu! I am going today to get my vaccine. I trust you are feeling better since you went out to do your research on the speed limit. Good for you, trying to fight city hall! It's worth the effort, I think.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend. At least, I think the weather has gotten better in your part of the world.
and on the law, do not give up and keep going. Any answer like 'No' is merely the start point for further pressure and an opportunity to redefine and firm the argument. from over here it is how we live; those FoI requests are just the start!
I have 3 points at the moment, so even though I am going on a speed awareness course, I would incur another 6 points which is too near the limit. I would have to drive like an old lady and I don't know how to do that!
No Wayne, it was on Hills Road between the Travel Lodge and Addenbrookes roundabout and it was a 40 MPH limit in 1966 and we can't find where it has been revoked and reinstated as 30.
Days of searching through the London Gazett, Cambridge Evening News, News clipping relating to roads held at the Cambridge Library, asked for copies from Cambridge City Council and the County Council using the Freedom of Information Act and zilch.
Does you Dad know of any history on this road? How did you get on in Dubai?

I was expecting to have a dive healthwise Anne, but I refuse to give in.
I have been exposed to swine flu since last spring aims when my greatgrandaughter had it and then several people in the office so I was actually quite surprised when the Dr diagnosed it.
At the time it was crucial to keep my licence because I needed to take OG on his frequent hospital, clinic and doctor appointments Jay so I had to at least ask the questions. On compassionate grounds I have not been actually charged yet, and the latest step is to write to the Chief Constable today setting out our case and asking for proof of the legality of this limit. Hopefully he will decide not to charges.
I'm giving it my best shot Rosiero
Do you know Mare, I am totally blown away by the prayers, good will and comfort being offered to me. Thank you so much
The weather did get better RNSANE, but it's bitterly cold today. I hate it. We should go off on a cruise.
Why I do believe that you are a rebel grit! Much like myself!
Hi Ann,
Dubai was a mixed race, our BMW had major problems during qualifying and did not start the race at all.
The Aston Martin went well but broke a few bits like driveshafts, alternators and batteries.
I managed 20 minutes sleep during the 45hr race weekend.
I will ask my father but I'm not sure he'll know, he did used to work at Tim Brintons Peugeot garage on Hills Road although i'm not sure he ever paid much attention to the speed limits!
Take care
Good Luck RAC with fighting your corner over the 30/40 mph speed limit. If you are correct and the speed was never 'officially' reduced then do be sure and claim for your time in sorting out this matter. Charge them at 'legal' rates of pay . .
Oh goodness I have just caught up with your posts over the last month and I feel a little tearful. So sorry to hear about your loss, and now your illness. You are a total marvel to keep blogging and to keep sounding so level-headed and positive.
I guess "normal" will return, but it might sneak up on you slowly over time. One day you'll wake and realise "this is the new normal"!
Wish you well x
Ah! the joys of motor racing Wayne Incidentally, you asked me a few blogs ago if I flashed by the camera on the Addenbrookes to Sainsbury road because there has been a lot of controversy about it. Not this time, but I was when Davy had the operation two years ago! My fight with the council continues. They have now been reported for not complying with FOI.
Be assured ladythinker, I will!
Too bad about the week after but not thinking about that just yet.
