Today Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation & Skills is to speak at the Liberal Party Conference. He was to launch an attack on "the murky world of corporate behaviour" and criticise capitalism, saying it "takes no prisoners". He is already being critisised. Let's see if he has the balls to pull it off. I love that man.
For our friends across the seas we have a unique situation going on here. The Labour Party (left) has been running the country into the ground for the last 13 years, scheming and blagging money out of good honest citizens to squander on feckless dossers and mad schemes. spending money they didn't have and getting the country into massive debt while doing nothing to curtail the bankers as they robbed us blind.
So... we had an election which, naturally, Labour lost. The Conservative Party (right) received most votes, but not enough to form a government so they formed a coilition government with the Liberals (centre). Now we have a Conservative Prime Minister (David Cameron) and a Liberal Deputy Prime Minister (Nick Clegg). It's my belief that they are two modern, honest and capable men, but they do have ideological differences with the Liberals leaning more to the left than the right.
We live in interesting times and I only pray to God that they can pull together for the good of the Country and put aside the pressures that are being applied by their more radical colleagues. This could all go horribly wrong, but if the will of the good citizens of this Country is allowed to take root I have hopes it will work. Or am I just being a Polyanna again?

Join the rest of us Pollyanna's. We to hope for radical changes and the end to spending and wasting tax payers monies! We are all in tough times and praying to God is a good beginning I say!!

Great post, Margaret Polyanna.
Vince the Cable is OK on TV, but yet to be proved in practice. With luck, the PM and his Deputy will keep him on a tight leash.
He's the guy who forecast the Recession. Well, he said he did, but no one has yet been able to find when he forecast it and who he forecast it to... Some people think he's just a woolly academic ...
Nice summary, Ann of the situation. In fact all labour govenments get us into a financial mess. The last time was when Dennis Heally had to go to the IMF with a begging bowl. It took the conservatives years to put matters right and what happened after 13 years? New Labour got in and ruined the country again, this time, big time, first with Tony Blair and then with Gordon Brown.
I think the Tory/Lib pact with be great for the country.
Just seen your previous post about the car wash!! LOL Are they recruiting? LOL Hugs ~ Eddie
I hope we will all pull through but I hope it isn't the poorest who have to lose out.

You're my kind of gal. I agree. The naughty profligate babysitter gave out far too much pocket money and now the sensible parents are having to economise and pull the horns in. Tough medicine, but we need it to get better.
We don't have much "wiggle" room with this problem SueAnn. I think that we should apply the first three steps of the AA recovery programme and ask for His help.
Oh DogLover, you speak the truth, but I still stand by what he says, although I must admit he does go off on a tangent (but who doesn't).
We were known as the Poor Man of Europe, and we had to accept tough measures to turn us around. When Labour came to power we were in a great financial position and it gauls me to see that it has all been "nickled and dimed" away and we have to go right back to basics again.
Recruiting for the car wash? Are you offering Eddie?
The problem is identifying the poorest Maggie. There are far too many taking money out of the pot who should be working.
I have it on good authority that the economic world like the measures that are being taken Addy. Finger crossed this government keeps it's focus and doesn't get bogged down in mire.
