HOW TO WRITE A SUCCESSFUL POP SONG

Take a look at this video on eddybluelights blog today http://eddybluelights.blogspot.com/2011/02/pop-songs-sound-same-its-official.html. I don't want to give too much away but the thesis is that all pop songs over the last 40 years have been based on the same 4 simple chords. If you decide not to take a look you will be missing something amazing.

And now for something completely different. I was invited into my grandson's/
greatgrandaughter's school to talk about my experiences in the London suburbs during the Second Word War. My grandson Taylor is 9 and this is the poem he wrote about that talk. Now of course I'm not at all biased, but I think that he has great talent.

The crocodile reference relates to a game we used to play jumping off of the garden wall onto the grass which had become a crocodile infested river. I told this story in response to the question "what sort of toys did you have during the war". Answer - none but we were very inventive!

Nanny’s Memories of the War

Boom, bang, crash, thud,
Planting seeds in the mud
Under the bomber’s moon
Daddy will be home soon

I’m never getting out of this
I hope the bombers do miss
I’m never getting out of here
I hope daddy is near

Daddy brings home a tin
I think chocolates within
I need to get away from the crocodiles
I’m not supposed to look at the air craft files

Quickly, quickly turn the dial
The fire station is a mile
St Paul’s is still there
In our beloved town square

That's a great poem for a nine-year old to write! In fact he's done better than many adults. Well done, your grandson!

Love the Axis of Awesome!

Ah, ha, a budding poet. I started about six-years-old. You can tell your talented grandson that it took me sixty years to get my book published.

I cannot imagine what life was like for all of you during that war.

Isn't he clever with words, I'm so impressed. Flagmaker

Wow, only 9! No, you are correct. Very impressive.

This makes you around my age. A while back I made a comment about not finding very many older folks who used the internet for anything other than E-Male and FB pictures. Today, alone, I found two. Now I don't feel so alone.

I know that I could never have written like that when I was 9 Eva. But that's not saying a lot is it!?

Great isn't it Maggie?

My friend DogLover, who I believe you know Addie, thought it was rubbish. But there, he can be a curmudgeonly old git at times.

I think that we all agree Jay, except for DogLover of course.

That is very encouraging Carmen. I don't think that I will tell him that.

Writing seems to come so easy to him too flagmaker. He is an excellent drawer too, just like his daddy.

I'm a tad older than you Karen. I was 70 last July but, as they say, you can't keep a good dog down!
